Summer Begins At "The Top"
Summer kicks off on Pleasure Island this weekend with the Memorial Day weekend (as much as summer kicks off here, it’s basically summer all year). Friday night I’ll be attending the ZZ Top concert at the Wharf Amphitheater. I’ve seen the “Little Ole Band from Texas” several times in different venues and they always put on a good show. I’m sure this time will be no different. The opening act will be .38 Special, one of my all time Southern Rock favorites. Since we’ll be staying at Phoenix All Suites, we’ll certainly take the short walk to the new Hangout. On Memorial Day, we’ll head down to Fort Morgan to honor our fighting men and women and watch the staff fire their Civil War era cannon. It’s an incredible sight. Enjoy Memorial Day, and come visit us soon.
As always, see you at the Beach.

May Fishing Report by Capt. Randy Boggs
A few sheepsheads are being caught around the rocks and oil rigs in Mobile Bay. Trout are being caught with live shrimp in the bays around grass and the docks. Spanish and King mackerel are showing up in the inshore to near shore waters, and they are being caught trolling using planers and silver spoons.
Pompano are being reported in the surf. Some good catches have been landed lately. They are being caught on sand fleas and live or dead shrimp.
Black fin tuna are being caught around the offshore rigs at night either trolling or jigging. A few yellow fin tuna have been caught as well.
Vermillion snapper, trigger fish and white snapper are being caught in the 100’ plus depths on cut squid.
Red snapper season is now open in Florida waters. Most of the spots have been fished pretty hard, but nice catches are being landed on light tackle.
Several larger grouper have been caught in the 200’ – 300’ depths. We have seen a lot of grass lines with fresh weeds in them and some chicken dolphin around them. We have seen no catches of bigger dolphin or Wahoo. But, with the sunny weather that we have been having the water temperatures will quickly rise and the dolphin and Wahoo will begin to show up. Generally, the first dolphins are caught around Mother’s day.
The cobia migration is still moving through and some nice fish are being caught along the beach. We caught one last week of an offshore reef. So, if you are bottom fishing, keep an eye out around the boat because they are likely to show up anytime.
Water temperature both near shore and offshore being reported at 73°.

Family Reunion
Beachin’ Bob is bringing in the whole extended family for the Fourth of July weekend this year. Aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters, in-laws, the whole gang. We’ll be at Phoenix on the Bay II. It’s got a lazy river (which is perfect for someone like me who’s…well..let’s say uninspired to undertake rigorous activity while vacationing), wireless access throughout the building for blogging and web surfing, and a great view of Terry Cove and the
See you at the Beach!!
