Hotel Benefits

People often think of hotels as places “just to rest your head.” And it’s a valid argument—most of the hotels I’ve ever stayed at have been small, one-room lodgings intended only for the purpose of having a place to sleep when you’re traveling and don’t want to spend much on accommodations.

This simply doesn’t apply to Brett/Robinson’s Phoenix All Suites Hotels in Gulf Shores. For starters, the living area is not the main sleeping area (although a sleeper sofa is included if extra sleep space is needed); the rooms come with a separate master bedroom with a king-size bed, as well as bunk beds for kids.

But my favorite thing about these hotels is the full kitchen. I can’t tell you how frustrated I’ve been in hotels where I can’t even keep some cold drinks in the room with me. The Phoenix hotels, on the other hand, offer full kitchens, so cold beverages—and meals in general—are no problem.

Father's Day

It’s time once again to think about what to get Dad for Father’s Day. In my experience, dads are some of the hardest people to shop for. They seem to have everything, and they aren’t vocal about what they do need or want.

So I’m not even going to bother asking mine this year. He’s simply going to get a weekend in Gulf Shores at Brett/Robinson’s Phoenix All Suites or Phoenix All Suites West. Two nights for $388.50, which includes a “Dad’s survival kit”—men’s travel case, snacks, a Sports Illustrated magazine, and the all-important beer. And for a little extra, I think I’ll throw in a round of golf. Should be a pretty good weekend.

It's Almost Music Fest Time!

The first day of the Hangout Beach, Music and Arts Festival is just a little more than a week away. If you haven’t already made plans to attend, there’s still time to book a room at a Brett/Robinson property.

Attention Rick and Bubba Fans

This Friday, April 30th, is going to be quite an entertaining morning at The Hangout in Gulf Shores. The Rick and Bubba Show will be broadcasting live from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. (CST).

Anyone who’s listened to this show knows what a comedy trip these two are, and to add to the fun, animals from the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo will make an appearance and Lisa Christian will perform live during the show. The comical crew will also be interviewing representatives from the Alabama Gulf Coast CVB and The Hangout Beach, Music and Arts festival.

The public is invited to attend the broadcast. Brett/Robinson’s Phoenix All Suites Hotel and both of the Island Winds properties are really close to The Hangout, so if you happen to be staying there this Friday, you’ll be in a good position to go check it out.

The Hangout Beach, Music and Arts Festival

I think most people would agree that the beach, particularly along the Gulf Coast, is an ideal place to be in May. Throw in some live music and a festive atmosphere and you’ve got quite a party—or The Hangout Beach, Music and Arts Festival.

This is a first-time event that will take place May 14th, 15th, and 16th on the beach, next to the Hangout in Gulf Shores, and will feature more than 60 musical artists—including some Grammy Award winners (view a complete list of artists here). Bring a friend or two, a group, or the entire family. It’s a great opportunity to have fun on the beach and enjoy an assortment of music.

Summer Begins At "The Top"

Summer kicks off on Pleasure Island this weekend with the Memorial Day weekend (as much as summer kicks off here, it’s basically summer all year). Friday night I’ll be attending the ZZ Top concert at the Wharf Amphitheater. I’ve seen the “Little Ole Band from Texas” several times in different venues and they always put on a good show. I’m sure this time will be no different. The opening act will be .38 Special, one of my all time Southern Rock favorites. Since we’ll be staying at Phoenix All Suites, we’ll certainly take the short walk to the new Hangout. On Memorial Day, we’ll head down to Fort Morgan to honor our fighting men and women and watch the staff fire their Civil War era cannon. It’s an incredible sight.
